High Performance Computing Workshop -- University of New Orleans
HPC @ LSU will hold a High Performance Computing Workshop on April 23 & 24 at LA 236 at University of New Orleans. This workshop will be also held on the Access Grid so that LONI users on other sites may attend.This workshop will cover the basics of high performance computing including, but not limited to, overview of HPC environment of IBM AIX and Dell Linux cluster machines at LONI (Queen Bee, Poseidon, Neptune, etc.), Unix/Linux operating system commands and editors, introduction to Parallel Computing, introduction to MPI and advanced MPI, introduction to OpenMP and advanced OpenMP, LONI Portal, optimization and debugging of your code, introduction to grid computing, utilizing High Performance Computing Systems in CFD.
Prerequisites: Programming experience in C or Fortran (All examples will be in C or Fortran), a LONI account, a LONI allocation, a LONI Grid Certificate, and a laptop.
LONI Account: This workshop will be including hands-on execises on supercomputers, therefore a LONI account is needed for each attendee. If you don't have an account, please request a LONI account HERE. You have to put in a valid email address (your institution or organization email, NO free public email such as gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc. please) and a link to the account request form will be sent to that email address. You click the link in your email message and you will be directed to the account request form. Please fill that form to request a account (You may input your advisor as your LONI Contact/Collaborator if you are a student, postdoctoral researcher or research associate from a LONI Member Institution. If you are from a non-LONI Mmember Institution, you must have a faculty or research staff in one of LONI Member Institutions as your Collaborator to sponsor you a LONI account).
LONI Allocation: Once a user has an account he/she must request an allocation to use HPC computational resources at LONI. You can request a new allocation as a PI or join an existing allocation HERE.
LONI Grid Certificate: This workshop will introduce you to Grid Computing including hands-on exercises on LONI supercomputers, therefore a LONI Grid Certificate is needed for each attendee. If you don't have a LONI Grid Certificate, please request one following this instruction:
- Request a LONI user certificate, issue the following command on the shell from any of the LONI P5 Machines (Neptune, Bluedawg, Ducky, Zeke)
$ export GLOBUS_LOCATION=/usr/local/globus/globus-4.0.4
$ export PATH=${PATH}:/usr/local/globus/globus-4.0.4/bin$ grid-cert-request
- Mail the usercert_request.pem file to ca@loni.org
$ cat $HOME/.globus/usercert_request.pem | mail ca@loni.org
$ cp youname_signed.crt $HOME/.globus/usercert.pem
Laptop: This workshop will be including hands-on execises on supercomputers, therefore each participant needs to bring a laptop with SSH or PuTTY installed. If you do not have a laptop, please contact Kathy Traxler at ktraxler@lsu.edu so that she can provide one for you.
Register here. The seat space is limited, please register early to be guaranteed a seat in the class.
