LONI High Performance Computing Workshop--Southern University (Southern)

The workshop at Southern is over. We had an excellent time and a very good turnout. We met a lot of excellent researchers who were very interested in using LONI resources to enhance their computational research.

Thank you very much to everyone at Southern that mad this such an outstanding workshop!

++++++++++++++++++++++

HPC @ LSU will have a LONI High Performance Computing Workshop to be held at Southern University (Southern), on March 3 & 4, 2009. The workshop will be held in the Pinchback Hall Hi-Tech Room 123. The map of the Southern campus can be found HERE.

Parking

You will park in the faculty zone 118F, beside Pinchback building. You will come inside to receive your parking tag and then take it back to your vehicle.

The workshop will be an introductory workshop covering overview of LONI, introduction to LONI HPC environment on Dell Linux machines, introduction to Parallel Computing, scientific visualization and introduction to MPI. There will also be short talks by Southern HPC researchers to demonstrate how HPC skills can enhance your computational research.

We would also like to discuss your code or other topics that you might have an interst in with current users. If you would like to meet with a user consultant please indicate this on the registration form. We will schedule you with a consultant.

Prerequisites: Programming experience in C or Fortran (All examples will be in C and Fortran), a LONI account, and a laptop.

LONI Account: This workshop will be including hands-on exercises on LONI supercomputers, therefore a LONI account is needed for each attendee. If you don't have a LONI account, please request one HERE. You have to put in a valid email address and a link to the account request form will be sent to that email address. You click the link in your email message and you will be directed to the account request form. Please fill that form to request a LONI account (You may put your advisor as your LONI Contact/Collaborator if you are a student, postdoctoral researcher or research associate).

LONI ALLOCATION: You must have or join an allocation for the hands on exercises. Once your LONI account has been approved please contact Kathy Traxler for directions on how to join her training allocation for this workshop.

Laptop: This workshop will be including hands-on exercises on LONI supercomputers, therefore each participant needs to bring a laptop with SSH or PuTTY installed.

This training will be a two day workshop introducing the user to High Performance Computing. Southern University (Southern) will provide lunch and refreshments to all participants. Thanks Southern for the hospitality!
