Workshop topics

The workshop will be an introductory workshop covering:
  • introduction to LONI HPC environment on Dell Linux machines,
  • introduction to Parallel Computing,
  • scientific visualization and introduction to MPI.
  • short talks by Tulane HPC researchers to demonstrate how HPC skills can enhance your computational research.

We would also like to discuss your code or other topics that you might have an interst in with current users. If you would like to meet with a user consultant please indicate this on the registration form. We will schedule you with a consultant.

Prerequisites: Programming experience in C or Fortran (All examples will be in C and Fortran), a LONI account, and a laptop.

LONI Account: This workshop will include hands-on exercises on LONI supercomputers, therefore a LONI account is needed for each attendee. If you don't have a LONI account, please request one HERE. You have to put in a valid email address and a link to the account request form will be sent to that email address. You click the link in your email message and you will be directed to the account request form. Please fill that form to request a LONI account (You MUST put your advisor as your LONI Contact/Collaborator if you are a student, postdoctoral researcher or research associate).

LONI ALLOCATION: You must have or join an allocation for the hands on exercises. Once your LONI account has been approved please contact Kathy Traxler for directions on how to join her training allocation for this workshop. You will need to apply for your own allocation as soon as possible for your research. "Small" allocations (50K SUs and less) are approved quickly and are more than sufficient for learning how to use the systems. Email me with any questions.

Laptop: This workshop will include hands-on exercises on LONI supercomputers, therefore each participant needs to bring a laptop with SSH or PuTTY installed.

Register here. The seat space is limited, please register early to be guaranteed a seat in the class.

This training will be a two day workshop introducing the user to High Performance Computing. Tulane University (Tulane) will provide lunch and refreshments to all participants. Thanks Tulane for the hospitality!
