High Performance Computing Workshop--January 2007--LSU

HPC @ LSU and CCT offered a High Performance Computing traning to LSU community members in January 2007. This workshop was held on January 25 and 26 from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm in the Frey 101 training room.

It was an introductory workshop covering the HPC environment of IBM Power5 and Linux machines at LSU and LONI, basic operating system commands, introduction to Parallel Computing, introduction to MPI and advanced MPI, introduction to CactusCode, optimization and debugging of your code. Its goal was to facilitate the LSU research community's use of high-performance computing resources both here at LSU and around the state. All LSU faculty, staff, and students were invited to attend and learn more about the availability and use of these resources.

Twenty-eight members of the LSU community attended the packed two-day workshop, which was introduced by Charlie McMahon and Dr. Ed Seidel. Faculty and staff from HPC, CCT, and LONI gave a series of eleven presentations. The knowledge gained at the workshop will help researchers better utilize the resources provided to them by the participating institutions, improving the scientific research done here at LSU.
