HPC Training

LONI High Performance Computing Workshop--Louisiana Tech University, Ruston

HPC @ LSU will have a LONI High Performance Computing Workshop to be held in Louisiana Tech University at Ruston, on October 22 & 23 2008. The workshop will be held in room 107 of Biomedical Engineering Building at Hergot Ave on LaTech campus. A google map of this locatin can be found HERE. The Access Grid is not available for this workshop thus you need to attend in person.

The workshop will be covering Welcome to TeraGrid (LONI joined Teragrid as a Resouce Provider), LONI HPC environment of IBM Power5 and Dell Linux machines at LONI, LONI accounts and allocations, Introduction to MPI and advanced MPI, Programming with OpenMP, Hybrid programming with MPI and OpenMP, Introduction to Grid Computing, LONI Portal, Optimization and debugging of parallel code, Computational investigations of environmentally relevant interfaces, FDTD on LONI: Seeing the unseeable, and High throughput high energy physics data processing on LONI.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledeg in Linux/AIX and VI editor, Programming experience in C or Fortran on Linux/UNIX environment, a LONI account, a LONI Grid Certificate, and a laptop.

LONI Account: This workshop will be including hands-on execises on LONI supercomputers, therefore a LONI account is needed for each attendee. If you don't have a LONI account, please request one HERE. You have to put in a valid email address and a link to the account request form will be sent to that email address. You click the link in your email message and you will be directed to the account request form. Please fill that form to request a LONI account (You may put your advisor as your LONI Contact/Collaborator if you are a student, postdoctoral researcher or research associate).

LONI Grid Certificate: This workshop will introduce you to Grid Computing including hands-on exercises on LONI supercomputers, therefore a LONI Grid Certificate is needed for each attendee. If you don't have a LONI Grid Certificate, please request one following this instruction:

Laptop: This workshop will be including hands-on execises on LONI supercomputers running Linux/AIX operating systesm, therefore each participant needs to bring a laptop with SSH or PuTTY installed. If you do not have a laptop, please contact Chris Womack at cwomack@latech.edu so that he can try his best to provide one for you.

This training will be a two day workshop introducing the users to High Performance Computing. Louisiana Tech University will provide lunch and refreshments for both day to all participants. Thanks Louisiana Tech University for the hospitality!
