High Performance Computing (HPC) at LSU, or HPC@LSU, is a joint partnership between LSU's Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) and LSU's Information Technology Services (ITS). We promote scientific computing and technology across all disciplines, enabling education, research and discovery through the use of emerging, advanced technologies. HPC@LSU provides the infrastructure and support necessary to facilitate heroic research efforts, utilizing cutting-edge technology to push the limits of scientific discovery.
Through HPC@LSU, University faculty, staff and students can access LSU’s supercomputer, Tezpur, and other high-performance computing systems on campus. HPC@LSU provides system administration and consultation support for the Louisiana Optical Network Infrastructure (LONI) supercomputers. LONI contributed one half of the computational cycles from QueenBee, it's centerpiece system, to the TeraGrid as a resource provider. LONI became the newest partner on TeraGrid, the backbone of U.S. cyberinfrastructure, in late 2007 and retired from Teragrid in March 2012.
Serving as a central point to access all HPC resources and user expertise at LSU and LONI, HPC@LSU provides production HPC cycles and services to researchers on campus, the state, throughout the nation, and across the world.
In April 2011, Chancellor Michael Martin approved the reorganization of HPC@LSU under the leadership of LSU's ITS and CCT. HPC@LSU is now organized into two tiers
- HPC-1@LSU whose responsiblity includes fundamental HPC operations, systems and "tier 1" level support services. HPC-1@LSU is a division within LSU's ITS and is headed by the HPC Director, Samuel White
- HPC-2@LSU whose responsibility includes "tier 2" level consultation and advising to the campus/institution research community, enabling the broader adoption and use of HPC and other forms of Cyber Infrastructure (CI) - on campus, regionally, and as part of national CI fabric- by that community. HPC-2@LSU, also known as CCT HPC Enablement is a division within LSU's CCT and is headed by the CCT Asst Dir., Computational Enablement, James A. Lupo
